700 people seated at one long table, sharing a meal in the world’s most spectacular setting. This is the visionary annual Table of Peace & Unity held on Table Mountain, which will again see the public, dignitaries, celebrities and religious leaders getting together to enjoy a festive meal on 13 May – Mothers Day – for the pleasure of breaking bread with a wonderful diversity of strangers; and to raise funds for organisations working with abused, vulnerable and orphaned children across South Africa.
Now in its 11th year, the vision of the Table of Peace & Unity event is growing. All South Africans are urged to host their own Table– at home, on their street, in their community on 13 May. “Even if people can’t join us on Table Mountain on the day”, says founder and organiser, Christine Cashmore, “they could create a Table of Peace & Unity wherever they live. Breaking bread together in a mindful way will go some way in creating the peace and unity we all want for ourselves and our country”.
Now an annual event, the Table of Peace & Unity raises funds for those so close to Christine’s heart; the children of South Africa. 100% of all the funds raised from the ticket sales and auction at the event is given up to charitable organisations that focus on the needs of vulnerable children. To date, the Table of Peace & Unity has raised over R12-million.
The purpose of the Good Food & Wine Show is to showcase all aspects of the very best and latest in food and beverage trends to the South African public. As foodies, the Good Food & Wine Show wants to encourage talented young people to enter the hospitality industry so, besides funds raised from the Table of Peace & Unity, the Good Food & Wine Show itself funds culinary bursaries for deserving students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
