With our current food waste pandemic within South Africa most of the food thrown away is fresh produce. by combining these two classical flavors which are inherently South African, we fight Food Waste in a tasty yet nourishing way. In doing this we support our local farmers growing our economy but ensure that we can save our food and planet for those that come after us.
Mielies are a staple not just in South Africa but in Africa. We have the opportunity at The GFWS2017, to showcase how to use our foods in a cost effective way not just locally but internationally to Africa and the International Community. Education in food is something that is new to South Africans, with over 30% of our population unemployed, we have a duty to ensure that everyone in our South African home, is fed and nourished. It is one of the reasons I've stayed on board for 11 years with the GFWS, its not just a show, it is a platform to educate and inform. They provide Chefs like myself an opportunity to inspire others and to educate our most precious resource, our food supply.
