Cape Town: 2 - 4 June 2017

Johannesburg: 28 - 30 July 2017

Durban: 27 - 29 October 2017

The largest culinary show in Africa is almost here, giving those who are passionate about food an opportunity to delve deep into the latest culinary trends, and join practical cooking demonstrations and master classes that are hosted by an array of chefs and industry personalities. The show will kick off in Cape Town from 2-4 June, head to Johannesburg from 28-30 July and end off in Durban from 27-29 October 2017.

Headlining this year’s show is the world’s very first celebrity chef and enfant terrible, Britain’s Marco Pierre White. This renowned Michelin Star maestro has featured as a guest and star judge on Master Chef Australia, where he acquired the title of “The Godfather of Modern Cooking”. White has trained several other famous chefs, including the likes of Mario Batali, Gordon Ramsay and Shannon Bennet to name but a few.

Joining White on the bill, is our very own Jan Hendrik van der Westhuizen, who is South Arica’s very first Michelin Star chef!  The owner of JAN Restaurant in Nice on the French Riviera, Van Der Westhuizen will return to our shores to share the gourmet knowledge that has made South Africans so proud of him. Expect enthralling, edutainment installations at all three events in Cape Town, Joburg and Durban.

Restauranteur and foodie Joao da Fonseca, popularly known as J’Something, will share his secret recipes by preparing a tasty feast for the shows. As an added bonus, he will take to the stage to perform his music - this multi-talented personality also happens to be the leading man of popular band Mi Casa!

Guests will practically be in the kitchen with White, Van der Westhuizen and J’Something, with the opportunity to watch these experts in action daily, free of charge. What’s more, White and Van der Westhuizen will be cooking up a storm at the Chefs’ Table, for which tickets are sold separately. This will be a smaller, more intimate event, at an exclusive venue, where people will have the chance to engage with the chefs, taste their dishes and sample some of South Africa’s top wines.

In addition to this stellar line-ups of chefs, all three shows will be “serving” a rather remarkable line-up of stimulating food personalities, including: Jenny Morris, Reza Mahammad, Lentswe Bhengu, Sarah Graham, Neill Anthony, Sherwyn Weaich, Lisa Raleigh and Vanessa Marx.

And, of course, what is good food without good wine? Headline sommeliers include Lloyd Jusa of the Saxon Hotel in Joburg, Gregory Mutambe of the 12 Apostles Hotel in Cape Town, and Tinashe Nyamudoka of The Test Kitchen, also in the Mother City. The dedicated wine zone is the place to interact with this talented trio.

Coffee enthusiasts can also rejoice, as each city will have a turn to host an extraordinary Barista Championship. All the regional championships will be judged by the Speciality Coffee Association of Southern Africa (SCASA).

As you’ve come to expect, there’s a host of ready-to-eat treats, market-style snacks and food trucks to suit every taste. Those with an appetite for more will find an elegant sufficiency at a wide selection of nine live food theatres, of which seven are free of charge as entry is included in the price of the ticket. Here, guests will be encouraged to use every one of their senses as visitors can become part of the action in the cooking workshops!

The Cape Town leg of the show can boast having one of the country’s – if not the planet’s - most exiting food installations ever created! “The biggest Elephant Cake in the World” will be displayed over all three days of the show, and is just one of the show’s many CSI projects. Other exciting installations include aesthetically pleasing seating areas, intriguing wine and alcohol smelling walls, book signings and so much more… all combining to encapsulate the ultimate journey of food and wine.

By taking gastronomic adoration and foodie experiences to new heights, the GFWS is indeed the most anticipated sensory event in the country. Fill up your proverbial plate with this exhilarating culinary adventure!
